 ŞOPOTU NOU- CHEILE NERE - SASCA ROMANA Marking: red tape; Duration: 8 - 9 hours; Length: 20 km. Possibilities of accommodation; Damian Forest Range 10 places , near the forest range, there is land for placing tents. The route starts from Sopotu Nou village,then follows the Nera river on a cart track road on the left. At the beginning of the route,Nera valley is large ,with many glades and shelters. After you pass by Poiana Meliugului you reach Lacul Dracului, a unique karst phenomenon in our country. The lake was formed by a cave ceiling falling,a part of the ceiling remaining above the lake.The Lake area is about 700 square meters and it has a depth of 12 m. From Lacul Dracului you go down to Ogasul Porcului thalweg, after which a narrow part that consist of Carsiile Dese and Carsia Caprarului, near the path there is Pestera Boilor(Oxen Cave). At the place called La Carlige ( At the Hooks )you can cross Nera by ford ,you can see the cliffs at the junction of Valea Rea with the Nera River . You can continue the route on a path carved into the rock. On the left side you can admire Pestera Porcului(Pig’s Cave)and Pestera Dubova (Dubova Cave), the most beautiful caves of Cheile Nerei . Following through the woods a cart track road admiring Turnul lui Beg(Beg’s Tower), you get to Damian forest range where there is a halting place.Downstream the forest range,the forest road follows Nera bends, goes under Cleanturile Rolului(Crags) and then Turnul Mic (The Small Tower) and Cleanturile Baltanului (Baltanu’s Crags). From the junction of Valea Beiului (Bei Valley) with the Nera River you can see Dealul Caraula (Caraula Hill) with its rocks and screes. Crossing Podul Bei (Bei Bridge) you leave the forest road, turning to the left you pass through the six tunnels carved into the rock, the last one,Tunelul Mare (The Great Tunnel) being the longest, and after that on the path carved into the rock and situated 15 meters above the Nera river ,you pass on the suspended bridge from Sasca Romana and following Nera‘s bank you reach Sasca Montana.
SASCA ROMANA - PODUL BEI(Bei Bridge) - LACUL OCHIU BEI (Bey’s Eye Lake)- ANINA Marking : blue tape Duration: 7 -8 hours. Possibilities of accommodation; Valea Bei forest range 4 places, Valea Bei Chalet 12 places,I category comfort. Place for tents near the accumulation lake of micro hydro-electric plant. From Sasca Romana,you pass over the suspended bridge and climb the narrow path on the right bank of the Nera river, you pass through six tunnels carved into the rock and reach Podul Beiului. From here going near the clear and cold water of Bei, you pass through the clearing from Morile Potocului( Potoc Mills),then near the Forest Range and the trout reservation,on Bei then you reach Ochiul Beiului, a karst lake that is supplied by an underground water course which by a phenomenon comes to light on the bottom of the hill where the lake was formed . The lake is surrounded by a fir tree forest which offers it a special charm and a very special picturesque view. It has an area of 284 square meters and a depth of 3.6 m. From this place you can take the route to Cascada Beusnisa (Beusnita Waterfall), located at about 1.5 kilometers upstream the Beusnita River. The route continues on Valea Beiului Sec and after an hour you reach Delamea Forest Range(Beiul Sec), then through the northern part of Poiana Gura Racajdeanului (The Mouth of the man from Racajdia Clearing), we enter the forest , reaching Poiana lui Marcu (Marcu’s Clearing), from where on Valea Padina Seaca (Padina Seaca Valley) you reach Crivina and from here on DN 57B you reach Anina.
LACUL OCHIUL BEIULUI –BEUSNITA(Ochiul Beiului-Beusnita Lake) Marking: blue triangle, Duration: 1 hour. A few meters downstream ,the waters sprung from Ochiul Beiului unite with the waters sprung from Valea Beusnita (Beusnita Valley) which descends in limestone steps . The route climbs easily through the woods and after about 1.5 kilometers upstream meets Cascada Beusnita (Beusnita Waterfall), surrounded by secular woods of beech, where the water falls from about 15 m height. The Waterfall is covered with green moss, which enhances its beauty and the calcareous tuff from where many caverns were formed. Two more waterfalls are found upstream.
SASCA MONTANA - Cascade Susara (Susara Waterfall) - CHEILE NEREI (Lacul Dracului) Marking: Blue Cross, Duration: 3 - 4 hours From Sasca Montana along Valea Susara (Susara Valley) through the fir trees forest you can pass near the building of the Seismic Station, then through Defileu Susarei( Susara Strait)you reach Cascada Susara . This waterfall is located upstream the confluence of Paraul Ungureanu (Ungureanu Brook) with Susara, it is 15 m high and consists of two steps. Going up the path passing through the beech forest you reach Poiana Logor (Logor Clearing), then you descend on Ogasul Porcului forest road to Cracu Porcului(Pig’s Leg),and La Scaune(At the Chairs) from where on the marked path you reach Lacul Dracului.
CHELLE NERE – VARFUL HABÂTULUI ( HABATULUI Peak )- IZVORUL TIŞULUI (TISIEI)(Tisza’s Spring) Marking: yellow band, Duration: 2-3 hours. From Cotul Slidăresii on a cart track road you go up to a steep slope to Poiana Arsa (Burnt Clearing) that crosses Ogasul Arsa ,making a detour from Ogasul Melugel to Habâd Peak. The path goes to the left until reaches Izvorul Tisului (Tişul Spring).
CHELLE NERE - POIANA MELIUGULUI(MELIUG CLEARING)-IZVORUL TIŞULUI Marking: blue circle, Duration: 2 hours From the north-west of Poiana Meliugului, the route follows the right bank of the Nera river and about 50 m downstream of Ogasul Târcoviţa swerves to the right and ascends the steep slope to the starting point of Ogasul Albinii, crosses Poiana Albinii , descends in Valea Alunului(Hazel Valley), crosses Poiana Alunului and reaches Izvorul Tişului.
CHEILE NEREi-SAT STANCILOVA (STANCILOVA VILLAGE) Marking: red circle, Duration: 2 hours. From Lacul Dracului on Haimeliug stream,the path goes up through the beech forest to the Stăncilova village reaching the Carbunari – Şopotu Nou county road.
LAPUŞNICU MARE - POIANA ROSCHI - CABANA CERBU (STAG HUT). Marking: red cross, Duration: 4-5 hours.
LAPUŞNICU MARE - POIANA ROSCHI – VARFUL LEORDIŞ (LEORDIS PEAK)- POIANA FLORII - POD PĂULEASCA (CALUGARA)(PAULEASA BRIDGE). Marking: yellow triangle, Duration: 5-6 hours.
TABARA Minis - PĂULEASCA POD - BEIUL SEC. Marking: yellow band, Duration: 5-6 hours. Visiting Rules 1. Access of vehicles and tourists is allowed only on settled and marked routes. 2. Parking vehicles is made only in places specially designed for this purpose. 3. Camping is prohibited in the reservations, except for the places that are specially arranged for this. 4. Abandoning the waste of any kind within the Park is prohibited. Tourists are required to clear the waste they make during their visit in the Park. 5.People are not allowed to wash their cars in the river water or on the banks of the lakes ; also harmful substances or detergents are not discharged here . 6. Noise pollution of any kind( yelling ,screaming, very loud music etc…)is forbidden 7.Picnics are forbidden to be held in natural reservations. 8. The destruction of flora, under any circumstances, is forbidden. 9. Lighting fire in the forest or along the walking trails is allowed only in places specially arranged for this purpose. 10. Writing on the trees, on cliffs or on the walls of the cave is prohibited. 11. It is prohibited to destroy the barriers on forest auto roads, of indicators and panels that provide information about the park. 12. The indications of the officers on guard, woodmen and other persons in the Park Administration, have to be respected. 13. Children under 14 have access only with their parents or in groups led by a major responsible person. 14. Access of dogs is allowed only if they are kept on leash. 15.It is forbidden to practice motor sports on the Park’s territory. 16. Fishing in the waters of the Park is prohibited. 17. Practicing tourism in Cheile Nerei-Beusnita National Park region can be done for money at the price in force at the time.
